March is the month for birthdays in my family. So many of us have birthdays in March! It’s a bit ridiculous, to be completely honest. My brother and I are so close together that we often shared birthday parties as kids. One year, we had a bowling party and it happened to be on St. Patrick’s Day. So, my mom (being the creative and practical person she is) drew shamrocks on all of our faces to help keep track of which kids were there with our party. Ever since then, I’ve always liked shamrocks. So, of course I had to come up with a Little Lucky Shamrock crochet pattern!
These little shamrocks are super adorable and you can work one up in 10 to 15 minutes. I give you fair warning though – they are a little bit addictive to make. Don’t blame me if you end up buried in a pile of shamrocks while binge watching you latest go-to series!
What you’ll need to make this crochet shamrock pattern:
- Worsted weight (4) yarn (Really, any yarn will do, just make sure you use a hook size that fits that yarn.)
- H hook
- Scissors
- Yarn needle

Let’s crochet some Little Lucky Shamrocks!
At the bottom of the page, there is a full video tutorial (left and right handed versions) and a button to download a PDF version of this pattern.
Round 1:
Begin with a mc and work 8 sc in the circle. Pull tight and join with a sl st to the first sc to close the circle. (8 sts)
Check out the videos below if you need some help with the magic circle.
Round 2:
ch 1 and begin working in the same stitch as the joining from the previous round. Work 2 sc in the first st and 1 sc in the next st. Continue around the circle in the same pattern, alternating between 2 sc and 1 sc in each st around. Join with a sl st to the first sc. (12 sts)
Round 3:
Now it’s time to make the leaves. Start in the second st of the round, not the joining st. Work the following all in the 2nd st (sc, hdc, dc, trc, 2 dc, trc, dc, hdc, sc). Below are the individual stitches.
sc
hdc
dc
trc
2 dc
trc
dc
hdc
sc
Sl st in the next 2 sts. Make sure you look closely to find the next st as sometimes it gets a little buried under all of the previous sts.
Continue around in the same pattern, working (sc, hdc, dc, trc, 2 dc, trc, dc, hdc, sc) followed by 2 sl st. The final sl st is worked in the join from the previous round. When finished you have 4 leaves and 48 sts.
Make the stem: ch 10, turn the chain over so you are working in the back bumps of the chain. Sl st in each ch across. Cut yarn and tie off. Pull tail through to the back of the shamrock and weave in the ends.
Isn’t it adorable?!? These little crochet shamrocks are perfect for leaving around to brighten someone’s day. Or, string them together to make a garland or necklace. To make an easy garland, just make a foundation chain and join the shamrocks with a sl st as you go along. I liked the look of 17 chains between each shamrock, but you could do any number you like. Make sure you leave enough tail at both ends for hanging!
I hope you enjoy making this Little Lucky Shamrocks crochet pattern as much as I do! Share your pictures and don’t forget to tag @Sugarspiceandyarn so I can see all of your lovely shamrocks!
